Dr. Kyriakos Stefanidis is currently a researcher at Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin, Germany. He has a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the field of network security and a Diploma in Computer Engineering. Before his involvement with FOKUS, he worked as a researcher for various research institutes, enterprise systems architect for the private sector and adjunct professor for two universities. He has 15 years of experience in research and development projects in the areas of secure networked systems, industrial systems security, network security, intrusion detection systems and identity management. He is the author and co-author of ~30 publications in international journals, conferences and book chapters. He has participated in 9 European and national research projects with the role of researcher. He has also participated in more than 10 development projects in the private sector, mainly in the area of secure enterprise systems, with the roles of software developer, systems architect and technical project manager. Some of his notable projects are the following: The development of the passport issuing system of the Greek state where he participated in the design and implementation of the passport issuing information system as well as the passport printing and validation of the security mechanisms. The European project “nShield”, where he designed a framework for security, privacy and dependability in networked embedded systems. The national research project “ISRTDI”, where he designed an HMM based NIDS for industrial control systems. The European project “PRACE”, where he optimized experiments from cross-disciplinary fields for massively parallel systems. The European project “CSP” where he designed, and acted as a technical coordinator for, the cybersecurity digital service infrastructure for the European Computer Emergency Response teams (CERTs)
